Three-time cyclocross world champion Erwin Vervecken of Belgium will race the CrossVegas in Las Vegas next month, race organizers announced Friday.
Vervecken won the world title in 2001, 2006 and 2007 and, at 37 won the Roubaix World Cup last winter. He has announced that he will retire at the end of this season.
Vervecken’s teammate Ben Berden also will race in the September 23 event.
“Erwin is a great competitor and an ambassador for the sport we are so passionate about. I’m sure we’ll see many more fans pour out to watch CrossVegas with a field that includes a multi-time World Champion,” CrossVegas promoter Brook Watts said.
Defending mens and womens champs Ryan Trebon and Katie Compton are expected to race CrossVegas.
Other confirmed starters include Alison Dunlap Alison Sydor, Georgia Gould and Katarina Nash and Britain’s Helen Wyman. On the men’s side confirmed starters include Adam Craig, Tim Johnson, Jonathan Page, Jesse Anthony, Jamey Driscoll, Jeremy Powers, Christophe Sauser, Barry Wicks, Todd Wells and Troy Wells.
