Momentum Sports Group, owners and operators of the UnitedHealthcare team, unveiled the new Maxxis-Shimano cyclocross team for the 2015-16 season on Tuesday. The four-rider outfit includes Danny Summerhill, Luke Keough, Erica Zaveta, and Cari Higgins, who will focus on major North American races.
“At Momentum Sports Group, we’re always looking for ways to grow within the sport of cycling and create value for our partners,” said team owner Thierry Attias. “We feel that cyclocross in the United States is in a place of healthy growth and expansion right now, and we are excited to become a part of that.”
Summerhill is a former under-23 national cyclocross champion and claimed victories at both days of the Derby Cup and at Cincy3. Higgins is also a UnitedHealthcare rider in the summer and has ample experience on the track, including two top-10 finishes in the omnium event at the UCI track World Cup.
Maxxis-Shimano’s second woman, Zaveta, also has pro road experience, racing for BMW-Happy Tooth. She rode for the Amy D. Foundation cyclocross team in a breakthrough 2014-15 season that included a victory at the Gateway Cross Cup.
Rounding out the young roster — all except Higgins are under 30 years old — Keough brings a wealth of cyclocross experience, including five victories at the Cyclesmart International. He too spends his summers wearing blue for the UnitedHealthcare squad.
The team will be managed by Rachel Heal, sport director of the UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team.
Team sponsors include: Maxxis, Shimano, Parlee, Pioneer, Smith, Pro Components, Pearl Izumi, Swiftwick, Kogel Bearings, and UnitedHealthcare.
