In the News: Iowa City will bid for 2016 CX World Cup stop

After CrossVegas successfully hosts the first-ever cyclocross World Cup on U.S. soil, another prominent organizer wants to bid for a stop.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports that organizers of the Jingle Cross race weekend will bid to host a stop on the UCI cyclocross World Cup next year.

“About four years ago, I really started getting serious about the World Cup,” said John Meehan, founder and race director of the Jingle Cross. “I’ve been talking with UCI annually and asking, ‘What are the possibilities and what do we need to do?’ So we’ve decided we’d like to submit a bid.”

This year’s Jingle Cross, which serves annually as a fundraiser for the UI Children’s Hospital, is scheduled for December 4-6 at the fairgrounds.
