Sanne Cant won the elite women’s race at Azencross in Belgium on Tuesday, her third victory in the Bpost series this season.
The Belgian rider finished ahead of Pavla Havlikova (same time) and Ellen Van Loy (one second behind). Cant, who rides for Enertherm-BKCP, is the two-time defending European cyclocross champion.
The race ended in a sprint, with Cant waiting until the time was right to launch her finishing kick.
Cant holds a lead of 1:46 ahead of Jolien Verschueren in the Bpost standings, with Helen Wyman 3:38 behind Cant in third. Two races remain on the Bpost calendar, in Baal and Sint-Niklaas.
Meeusen wins men’s race
Tom Meeusen of Telenet-Fidea rode to victory in the men’s race at Azencross, snagging a convincing victory over two chasers who battled for second about 30 seconds behind him.
Tim Merlier won that race for second ahead of Wout Van Aert.
Meeusen’s win was his second of this season, and comes on the heels of his acquittal in a doping case earlier this year. Meeusen won Kermiscross in October.
With two races left in the Bpost series, Van Aert has a 4:08 lead over Kevin Pauwels and a 7:53 advantage over Sven Nys.
