Etixx – Quick-Step confirmed Friday that Tom Boonen, who had hinted that he’ll continue racing after this season, will stay with the Belgian squad in 2017.
“I’m very happy and delighted that we came to an agreement,” Boonen said in a team statement. “It’s important for me to stay in this team, as I’ve basically spent my entire career here and enjoyed many beautiful moments, reaching some big goals. I know everybody since the inception of the team and I consider this squad as my second family. To be quite frankly, I don’t see myself with another jersey. It will be great to embark again with this strong team on a new adventure in the one-day cobbled races.”
Boonen has won more than 100 races over the course of his career, including victories at Ronde van Vlaanderen and four at Paris-Roubaix. He has ridden with the team since 2003.
