According to a statement released by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), a three-member arbitration panel from the American Arbitration Association (AAA)/North American Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled that there was enough evidence to show that Blackwelder had violated doping rules by using a banned anabolic steroid. Blackwelder, 34, tested positive for 19-norandrosterone, a metabolite of Nandrolone, on June 17, following a Women’s Challenge stage finish in Burley, Idaho. Blackwelder’s eight-month suspension began Friday, May 17, 2 002, the date of the ruling. Blackwelder will also have her results from the 2001 Women’s Challenge stricken from the record.
