French cyclist Stephane Barthe will be the sole French rider in Lance Armstrong’s US Postal team as of next year, following the departure of Cedric Vasseur.
The 28-year-old Barthe, the 1997 French champion, has been retained in the American team as they make preparations for a fourth consecutive Tour de France title.
Armstrong has led the team to victory in the past three editions of the world’s biggest bike race. Barthe was largely missing from action in 2001 having fractured his forearm at the start of May in the Four Days of Dunkirk race.
