SRAM Apex: White is the new black … or is black the new Red?

BOULDER, Colo. (VN) — SRAM has launched yet another color option in its road line-up. This time it’s Apex getting a new treatment. In a move that must have mechanics cringing all over the world, Apex is now available with white brakes, front and rear derailleur accents, white shift buttons and hoods on brake levers, and a small woosh of white on the crank arm.
This isn’t the first time SRAM has “launched” a new color. Red, confusingly, is now available in black. But at least that makes sense when it comes to bike parts looking good after use.
Other than the color, Apex remains the same good budget option with WiFLi gearing. I’m a fan of the compact chainrings and 11×32 cassette. But does anyone else remember Shimano Santé?
The crank, derailleur cage and brake levers remain black. So consumers won’t have to worry about wearing through the white, only keeping it clean.
If you already ride white handlebar tape, white shoes and white shorts, then check out the new white Apex. It will certainly look good, for a while at least.
The group costs the same as the black Apex group, $770. It will be available this spring.
