The incomparable Roc Loc Air fit system is only part of a grander equation that makes the Synthe a perennial favorite. Sleek aesthetics, 26 vents, and well-placed sunglasses ports are some of the other parts.
The addition of MIPS, an inner shell designed to reduce twisting concussions, solidifies this helmet as a category leader. But does MIPS matter? The jury’s still out, though we think having it is certainly better than not having it. Be warned: a MIPS-equipped helmet does feel slightly different than non-MIPS helmets, and the Synthe is no exception. When the road gets rough, the helmet chatters a bit, but not enough to be a nuisance. After your first ride with the helmet, you won’t even notice.
The Roc Loc Air fit system adjusts quickly and easily with a small dial, even on the fly. It hugs the head with a wraparound fit that’s comfortable all day.
Styling is what sets the Synthe apart. Gone are the swoops better suited to Batman, in favor of a rounded, low-profile design that looks great on any head. The Synthe is the most popular helmet in the VeloNews offices because it’s light, comfortable, and we need all the aesthetic help we can get.
