The Kestrel Talon would make a great choice for time trialists (or triathletes) on a budget. The shockingly low $1,499 price sacrifices a high-end component spec, but it rides like a race bike. Constructed of Kestrel’s Enhanced Modulus Hybrid carbon, a combination of 800K and 700K carbon fibers, the frame was one of the stiffest we tested this year.
This bike has ample snap, but offers a harsh ride, especially in the front end. The radically shaped frame is complemented by other aero accouterments, including the EMS Pro aero setapost, which offers a wide range of positions for TT or road use. It isn’t pretty, but the Talon has few equals when it comes to versatility at a bargain price.
