You’ve seen it on Chris Froome’s dome for much of the last two seasons, and for good reason: Kask’s Protone vents exceptionally well while compromising little in aerodynamic gains. We like it mostly for its comfortable fit, though.

Large vents on the front of the Protone blend with aero smoothness at the rear, giving this helmet a recognizable shape. It’s one of the most comfortable and stable helmets we’ve worn. The straps and retention system are simple and refined, easily adjusted with a rear dial, and allow for vertical movement to wrap low around the back of the head.

In fact, while others helmets can feel perched atop the head, the Protone is that rare helmet that seems to envelope the head–in a good way. Likewise, unlike many other helmets, the Protone’s chinstrap doesn’t simply continue down from the upper straps. It means that the straps always lay flat and there are no small clasps that dangle beneath your ears. It makes for a clean look. Finally, the faux leather chinstrap is comfortable and can easily be wiped clean–there’s no webbing to absorb your sweat.
