Racers with low volume feet will love Giro’s new Techlace shoes for their soft, flexible uppers that wrap around the foot for a glove-like fit. A small toe box and narrow heel cup hold the foot snugly in place during hard efforts. The heel cup is cut low on the ankle, so it cradles the heel without digging into your anklebones or Achilles.

The Techlace design combines classic styling of lace-ups with the fit and functionality of Boa closure systems. Tighten or loosen the shoes in 1-millimeter incremental changes with the Boa or disengage the system to open the shoes wide for quick access in and out. The Velcro laces add additional fit adjustment near the toes.

At 425 grams (size 41), these aren’t the lightest road shoes we’ve tested – Specialized’s Sub6s are significantly lighter – but what the Factress Techlaces lack (gain?) in weight, they earn back immediately with comfort. The insoles come with three interchangeable inserts to dial up or down the arch support depending on your foot shape.

Easton EC90 SLX carbon soles offer impressive power transfer for hard efforts. They feel stiff and stable when sprinting out of the saddle but didn’t leave our feet aching at the end of the day. Racers who demand comfort and performance will love these versatile kicks.
