Bontrager’s Meraj women’s shoes fit snugly with a narrow toe box and slim cut through the forefoot. A supple upper hugs the foot for a secure fit that holds it in place during hard efforts. The shoes are ideal for racers who want a custom-like fit without the custom price tag.
A Boa closure system offers two-way adjustments so you can easily tighten or loosen your shoes on the fly. Make micro-adjustments by turning the Boa in either direction or pull the dial out to completely open up the system for quick access in and out of your shoes.
Vents over the toes promote airflow to keep your feet cool on hot rides. They’re not the most breathable shoes we’ve tested, however, so look elsewhere if your feet are prone to overheating.
The carbon/fiberglass composite sole keeps the price down while providing a stiff—but not too stiff—platform for balanced performance. Bontrager rates the sole 10 out of 14 on its stiffness index, providing a bit of flex for all-day comfort.
Arch support is minimal and additional insole options are not offered with the Meraj shoes. We swapped the stock insoles with an after-market option with higher arches to enhance the fit. If you like a little extra wiggle room in your shoes, go for Bontrager’s less expensive Anara shoes that offer a wider fit.
