The Pearl Izumi Elite Pursuit Jersey combines a flashy aesthetic with comfort while avoiding the overly-embracing race fit.

The first thing you’ll notice about Pearl Izumi’s Elite Pursuit jersey is the colors. They pop, to say the least. In true Pearl Izumi fashion, the design comes off as interesting without being too busy.

Pearl’s Pursuit series is aimed at riding hard and fast, with an emphasis on aerodynamics, and perhaps its P.R.O. level jersey embodies that spirit a bit more than the Elite. It is a perfectly comfortable jersey: It isn’t exactly a club cut jersey, but it’s no race fit, either. What Pearl calls a form fit more accurately skims the body. While it does sport Pearl’s In-R-Cool Transfer technology, which is supposed to move moisture away from your skin, the somewhat heavy feel of the fabric combined with the fact that the fit isn’t next-to-skin means you may feel a bit warm in the summer months.

What the Elite jersey does seem to inherit from the Pursuit ideal is long-length stretchy sleeves and stretchy side panels. The raglan sleeves are a true form fit, not tight or restrictive, but comfortable against your skin. Sun protection wins over tan lines worries, so the longer length gets extra points there. The stretch material on the side panels seem to primarily improve the drape of the jersey — it lays smoothly and comfortably along your torso.

A minimal amount of elastic used in the hem of the jersey ensures it doesn’t ride up your waist as you ride. The silicone grip at the back helps with that as well. The full zip and three well-sized rear pockets add to the highly functional nature of the jersey. The Elite Pursuit jersey is a nice compromise if you want an attractive, comfortable, and fully functional piece of kit without the painted-on look.
