Cavendish has been sporting the new shifters

Several riders are using Shimano’s new ‘sprint shifter’ at the Tour Down Under this week. The optional shifter for the Dura-Ace Di2 electric group can be mounted anywhere on the bars, but are shown sitting just below the shifter hood, allowing quick and easy access to the rear shifting while in the handlebar drops.

The right side button shifts down the cassette, while the left shifter shifts up.

The buttons have been clearly visible on HTC-HighRoad sprinter Mark Cavendish’s Specialized this week.

Shimano already sells a two-button satellite shifter intended for use on the tops, as well as self-contained time trial shifters for Dura-Ace Di2

The new satellite shifting option for the drops, which Shimano dubs SW-7972, will be available to the public next month.
