CRESTED BUTTE, Colo. (VN) — As a first year pro team, Team Exergy is the new kid on the block in the pro peloton. Getting a start in the USA Pro Cycling Challenge surprised many in the cycling world. But with up and coming names and seasoned pro Freddie Rodriguez guiding the way, Team Exergy is looking to impress.
Smaller teams like Exergy are often forced to cobble together equipment sponsors. Exergy rides Felt F1 and B2 bikes with a mix of Microshift, FSA, TRP and Thomson parts. Williams Wheels with Kenda tires keep the team rolling.
Microshift is a small Taiwanese manufacturer of shifters and derailleurs. Team Exergy is riding custom green-colored “White” groups. The look of the parts is a bit clunky but they seem robust.
One of the most interesting parts used are the Power Cordz cables. The synthetic fiber cables are said to be 75 percent lighter than standard steel cables, last three years and are manufactured in Idaho.
Time will tell if the team produces any results, but it’s certainly nice to see some of the smaller cycling manufacturers getting their time in the limelight.
