The Assos Equipe RS Aero jersey fits exactly as you’d expect, given its name. It’s tight, which eliminates flapping, and the elastic 3D-knit fabric keeps it comfortable and coordinates with your body’s motions. The jersey breathes well and is stabilized using a specialized textile in the rear that limits stretch. On top of that, the jersey offers UPF50+ protection.

Assos has a lot of nifty names for its technology — A-Lock, rollBar, ergoBox. All you need to know is that it all works toward a common goal: stabilizing the shorts and insert so it all stays where it’s needed for optimal comfort and performance. And indeed these shorts are among the most comfortable we’ve tested recently. Assos remains top in bib shorts.

Socks are often an afterthought, but with details like these, the Aero socks deserve some consideration. The texturing breaks up airflow to reduce drag, and silicone grippers keep the socks from sliding down. A ton of watts? No, but in road racing, milliseconds count. Don’t leave any watts on the table.

Rapha isn’t the first to make woven road cycling shoes, but its entry certainly is impressive. Rapha created its own woven upper called Powerweave, from jacquard woven fabric. It keeps moisture retention to a minimum on hot days, and it features a hydrophobic coating to protect you when the weather turns foul. Rapha has also reduced the volume of the shoe over the top of the foot for a snug, natural fit.
