Revant’s just getting started, literally. The Portland, Oregon-based company was founded in 2010 as a lens replacement business. But it started manufacturing in 2017 in the USA — and making sunglasses as of 2018. Some growing pains are therefore to be expected. And while there are certainly a few flaws holding these back, the S2L sunglasses are remarkably well designed for an initial offering from a nascent company.
First, it’s important to note what makes Revant unique as a company: Buying a pair of Revant glasses gets you into the company’s Lifetime Lens Club, which gets you 20% off replacement lenses for life. That means if you faceplant off your mountain bike and scratch up your glasses, even several years down the road after that model of sunglasses has moved on, you’ll still be able to get replacement lenses.
The lenses pack in all the features you expect from a high-end set of sunglasses: polarization, UV protection, impact resistance, and anti-scratch and water repellency coatings. The lenses offer plenty of coverage — you’ll be able to see beyond their coverage area in your extreme periphery, and slightly below the lens. But otherwise you’re covered well.
Our one complaint: Polarization makes it difficult to read your GPS screen. That’s a problem with just about any polarized lens. It’s a nitpick, but if you already have difficulty reading your small GPS head unit screen, this will make it even more difficult.
The S2L glasses feel solid and comfortable on your face. The arms hold snugly against the head and the rubberized ear tips and nose piece hold firmly even when you get sweaty.
The nose piece isn’t adjustable, though, which made the glasses sit higher on our face than we would have preferred. This also made the top of the frames contact our eyebrows, leading to sweat dripping right down into our eyes.
The frames are designed and built in the USA, and they’re backed by Revant Max Care. This gives you plenty of perks like a 60-day risk-free try-on period, free return shipping, and an extensive warranty. The frame is warrantied for life.
So while there are still some quirks to the fit and function of the glasses, none of them are serious enough to consider avoiding the Revant S2L sunglasses. And with such a great warranty and lens replacement program, you can consider owning these glasses for a very long time without worrying about parts availability. Revant’s got a good thing going here, and with some refinements, the S2L glasses can run with the big dogs.
