2015 Velo Awards: Tire team of the year

Two Specialized engineers have developed some of the worlds fastest bicycle tires.

If you read the rolling resistance test in our November issue, you already know Specialized makes the fastest clinchers in the world. And you know why: Wolf Vorm Walde, Specialized’s tire R&D director, and his German compatriot Wolfgang Arenz, the company’s compound specialist. You also know that the only tire in our top five that wasn’t a Specialized — the Continental GP 4000S II — also came from “the Wolfs,” who worked at Continental before jumping to the big red S.

In the pursuit of marginal gains, these two have highlighted just how much attention we have to pay to where the rubber hits the road.
