Just a day after winning the Lagos de Covadonga stage, Carlos Barredo will join the Rabobank team in a two-year deal with the Dutch-backed squad.
Barredo joined Quick Step in 2007 and has developed into one of the most aggressive riders in the bunch. Rabobank officials confirmed the deal on its Web page Monday.
“We wanted someone who could go into breakaways and help the team in the mountains, and Barredo was an obvious choice,” Rabobank sport director Erik Breukink said. “He has more than proved himself. And he will also fit in well with the team, he’s good friends with Juanma Garate.”
Barredo, 29, is the latest signing for Rabobank, which is filling out its roster with some quality classics-style riders.
The team has also signed Theo Bos (Cervélo), Luís León Sánchez (Caisse d’Epargne), Mattie Breschel (Saxo Bank) and Maarten Wynants (Quick Step).
