ROME (AFP) — Reigning Tour de France champion Vincenzo Nibali (Astana) won the Italian road race title for the second year running on Saturday.

Nibali, who has had a relatively quiet 2015 season to date, provided a glimpse of his building form ahead of the Tour, riding away from the front group and winning solo in Torino.

The 30-year-old Sicilian finished ahead of Francesco Reda (Idea 2010 ASD) and Diego Ulissi (Lampre-Merida) in the 219km race between Legnano and Torino in Northern Italy. Reda finished 13 seconds behind, and Ulissi, winner of stage 7 at this year’s Giro d’Italia, was 29 seconds in arrears
