VESOUL, France (AFP) — Arthur Vichot won a three-way sprint on Sunday to claim the right to wear the French national champion’s jersey for the next year. The FDJ rider edged out Tony Gallopin (Lotto – Soudal) and Alexis Vuillermoz (Ag2r-La Mondiale) at the line.
The long, difficult road championship route was made for a powerful rider. Vichot, also champion in 2013, completed the 248.9km run in 6:13:38 as fellow puncheurs Gallopin and Vuillermoz finished on his wheel after a late break.
Vichot will now embark on the Tour de France next Saturday in the easy-to-spot tricolor national jersey.
