Vaughters’ views: Not quite like last year

I could tell you that I can't believe our team was treated like a pretty boy fresh into a maximum security prison today. But, I won’t, since I do believe it and I suppose we did about as well as we could have. No there weren't any outstanding mistakes, or headwinds that the rest of the teams missed. No excuses, we just weren't right as rain today -- as we haven't been for the first bit of this Tour. At this point I think we'll be licking our wounds for a bit, and hoping for one of Jens's attacks to work out and restore the morale of the troops. Enough of the past, how about tomorrow?

The tactic of the race will change now, as there are some clear cut favorites coming forth, and a very strong team has taken the lead. This will mean more attacks early in the day by riders who are now a bit down on GC hoping for stage win.

So, we’ll ride really fast for the first 30 to 50 kilometers, until a break that is acceptable to all of the leaders teams tears itself free, and then plug away at a tempo for the next 100km, waiting to see if a sprinter’s team decides to pull the break back or it will simply be a day for the leader’s team limiting its losses.

I hope there won’t be too many crosswinds, as I’m not so good at fighting my way in to the first echelon, and tend to get left like G.I. Joe action figures in the backyard when a kid turns 14.

See ya’ soon.
