Vacansoleil’s Jens Mouris scores at Groene Hart, BMC’s Stewart in lead pack

Local rider Jens Mouris of Vacansoleil broke from a 15-rider group in the final kilometers to take an 11-second solo win at the Dutch one-day Ronde van het Groene Hart. Belgian Nico Eckhour (An Post-Sean Kelly) won the field sprint for second, followed by Sep Vanmark (Topsport Vlaanderen).

Local rider Jens Mouris of Vacansoleil scored a win Sunday after breaking from a 15-rider group in the final kilometers at the Dutch one-day Ronde van het Groene Hart. Mouris, a prologue specialist and track pursuiter, built an 11-second gap by the finish. Belgian Nico Eeckhout (An Post-Sean Kelly) won the field sprint for second, followed by Sep Vanmark (Topsport Vlaanderen).

Americans Jackson Stewart and John Murphy, both of BMC, finished 35th and 82nd, respectively, in the 207-kilometer race from between Pijnacker and Zoetermeer. Stewart was part of the main pack that came in 2:06 behind the winner.

The 15-rider breakaway built a lead of over three minutes with 40km left and under two minutes at the 20km marker.

It was the fourth edition of the race, which is rated 1.1 by the UCI.
