PARIS (AFP) — A young girl was hit by a publicity vehicle on the route of the third stage of the Tour de France on Monday, a police source told AFP.
The adolescent was taken to hospital, according to race organizer ASO, suffering from a facial injury. Her life is not in danger.
The accident happened 70km into the 223.5km stage from Granville in Normandy to Angers.
The publicity caravan rides in front of the cyclists and sets off around two hours before the peloton, handing out free gifts to fans watching along the roadside.
The young spectator was hit while crossing the road in front of a vehicle, the police source said.
The 2016 Tour started in Normandy on Saturday and will finish in three weeks time on the Champs Élysées in Paris.
