PRESS RELEASE

ABARCA SPORT (TEAM CAISSE D’EPARGNE) met their rider’s ALEJANDRO VALVERDE’s lawyers, to know precisely which recourse the rider made against the CONI who decided to prevent him from racing in Italy by inhibition. It results from this information that the regulation applicable to the case prevents, with all safety, to solve the case within a short delay, and in any way, before the start of the next Tour de France. Under these circumstances and, knowing that a stage of the race will pass through the Italian territory, we are obliged to announce that ALEJANDRO VALVERDE will not take the start of the TOUR 2009.

The unfair situation VALVERDE is going through causes a not easily reparable damage for:

Our main sponsor CAISSE D’EPARGNE, which commitment in cycling does not deserve to take part in the most important race of the world without a rider like VALVERDE.

Alejandro, which this year sacrificed other sporting objectives to concentrate his preparation on the TOUR.

The fans of cycling, which will be deprived of the presence of the leader of the current World ranking.

We wish to say that we trust the fact that ALEJANDRO VALVERDE will overcome this difficult situation and will continue to show his qualities in the next races, and that the other riders of the team will, who are very professional, will defend the image of the CAISSE D’EPARGNE in the TOUR 2009.
