Martin celebrates on the line

HTC-Columbia’s Tony Martin sprinted to victory in the Eneco Tour on Tuesday after winning the seventh and final stage, a 16.9km time trial.

The 25-year-old German time trial champion, who finished second in the Tour de France prologue in Rotterdam last month, took the Eneco leader’s jersey on the third stage.

“The world time trial championships (next month in Australia) are my big objective for the end of the season even if I know that (Saxo Bank’s Fabian) Cancellara is almost unbeatable,” said Martin.

“But if I’m having a good day, and he a less-good, why not dream of a world title?

“This Eneco Tour success is very encouraging. Every season I progress. I work very hard to become the best time trial specialist in the future.”
