Sky neo-pro Moscon wins Arctic Race of Norway

Gianni Moscon seals the overall win at the Arctic Race of Norway as John Degenkolb takes his first victory of the season in stage 4

Sky neo-pro Gianni Moscon nabbed his first professional win Saturday in the third stage of the Arctic Race of Norway, riding into the GC lead along the way, and he held on through Sunday’s fourth and final stage to claim the overall title.

Viewed as a top prospect leading up to his first year on the WorldTour thanks to strong results at the under-23 level, Moscon set up the overall Arctic Race win with the stage victory on the lone mountain finish of the event. He crossed the line atop the Korgfjellet summit first ahead of Stef Clement (IAM Cycling) and Oscar Gatto (Tinkoff), who would go on to finish second and third overall after Sunday’s final stage.

The other three stages of the Arctic Race gave the sprinters a chance to show off their speed. Home favorite Alexander Kristoff (Katusha) took the opening day, Sky speedster Danny von Poppel won stage 2, and John Degenkolb (Giant – Alpecin) claimed his first victory of a tough 2016 season in Sunday’s stage 4.
