Jennie Reed won her second medal of the week at the 2007 Pan American Roadand Track Championships on Wednesday, adding a silver medal in the matchsprint to the gold she won on Monday in the keirin.After securing a spot in Wednesday’s semifinals on Tuesday, Reed tooktwo out of three head-to-head sprints from Mexico’s Nancy Contreras toadvance to the gold-medal final against Cuba’s Lizandra Guerra.  Guerra,who finished second to Reed in the keirin two days ago, got the best ofReed to claim the gold.In his first race since announcing his return to competitive cycling,Colby Pearce placed fifth in the men’s points race.  Pearce was oneof several riders to lap the field and scored a total of 35 points to finish11 back from winner Arles Castro of Colombia. Also competing in the pointsrace for the U.S. was Kenny Williams.  Williams placed 14th with sevenpoints.In the women’s points race, Neva Day abandoned after a mid-race crashdespite an effort to finish.  Becky Quinn, originally scheduled tocompete, did not start due to illness.The U.S. is all but assured a fourth medal on Thursday as Michael Blatchfordqualified for the gold-medal final in the men’s sprint.  Blatchfordadvanced out of his semifinal round and will face Julio Herrera of Cubafor the continental title. Also in the men’s sprint, Adam Duvendeck willride for fifth place in the 5-8 final.The final track events of the 2007 Pan American Championships will takeplace Thursday when the U.S. will also compete in the men’s team sprintand madison events. Blatchford, Duvendeck and Kevin Selker will ride theteam sprint while Pearce and Brad Huff will pair up to contest the madison.
