Alison Powers (UnitedHealthcare) scored a high-profile win on Monday in Folsom, California, when she rode to victory in the Amgen Tour of California Women’s Time Trial. Powers, the U.S. criterium champion, logged a winning time of 27:20 to top Brianna Walle (Optum-Kelly Benefit Strategies) in the 20-kilometer individual test.
Walle finished 21 seconds slower than Powers, with Tayler Wiles (Specialized-lululemon) third, at 25 seconds.
Former U.S. time trial champion Evelyn Stevens (Specialized) finished fourth, at 26 seconds.
“When I previewed the course on Friday, I knew it was for me,” said Powers. “I’ve finished second here in the previous two tries. To win today and get the Amgen winner’s bear feels great.”
Specialized’s Carmen Small kicked off two days of women’s racing at the Amgen Tour with victory in Sunday’s circuit race in Sacramento.
