Matteo Bono wins stage 5 at 2011 Eneco Tour; Edvald Boasson Hagen holds lead

GENK, Belgium (AFP) — Matteo Bono (Lampre-ISD) won the fifth stage of the Eneco Tour here on Saturday as Edvald Boasson Hagen (Sky) retained the overall lead.
Bono was part of a three-man group, with Artem Ovechkin (Astana) and Sergey Renev (Katusha), that broke away midway through the stage, opening up a gap of three minutes on the peloton.
Bono took the victory ahead of Renev, with Ovechkin third, the trio just holding off the peloton. It was the fourth professional win for the 27-year-old and the first since 2008.
Boasson Hagen remains in the overall lead, 12 seconds ahead of Belgian champion Philippe Gilbert (Omega Pharma-Lotto), with David Millar (Garmin-Cervélo) a further three seconds back.
Sunday’s sixth and final stage is 201km from Sittard to Geleen in the southern Netherlands, on a route similar to that taken by the Amstel Gold Race.
That should suit Gilbert, who has won the spring classic in each of the last two years.
