Marianne Vos wins 2014 Sparkassen Giro

The world champ takes a sprint victory in Germany ahead of Giorgia Bronzini and Lotta Lepisto

Marianne Vos (Rabo-Liv) won the Sparkassen Giro on Sunday.

The 124km circuit race, eight laps of a 15.5km course in Bochum, Germany, was round six of the 2014 UCI World Cup.

The world champion took the victory in a bunch sprint, besting Giorgia Bronzini (Wiggle Honda), with Lotta Lepistö (Bigla Cycling Team) third.

Shelly Olds (Ale Cipollini) was the top American, finishing 10th in the same time.

Lizzie Armitstead (Boels Dolmans), who won Sunday’s road race at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, remains the leader of the World Cup series.
