Marcotte, Fischer triumph in Gila crit

Eric Marcotte and Heather Fischer take victories in the Tour of the Gila's stage 3 criterium

Eric Marcotte (Jamis) powered to a victory Saturday in the Tour of the Gila’s stage 4 criterium.

The 36-year-old American, a former national champion in the criterium, put in a dig just before the final corner in downtown Silver City, New Mexico, and he held out to the line to take the win. In the chasing group behind, Travis McCabe (Holowesko – Citadel) won the sprint for second place, with Kris Dahl (Silber) taking third.

Lachlan Morton (Jelly Belly – Maxxis) finished safely in the bunch to hold on to the overall leader’s jersey.

Heather Fischer sprinted to the win on the women’s side. The Rally Cycling rider bested Linda Villumsen (UnitedHealthcare) and Emily Collins (Tibco – SVB) at the line.

Mara Abbott retains the GC lead, with one stage — the Gila Monster queen stage — left to race on Sunday.
