Katie Compton clinches 2nd World Cup title

The American defends her World Cup title with a victory in a muddy Rome World Cup

Katie Compton (Trek Cyclocross Collective) clinched the overall World Cup title on Sunday after winning the Rome World Cup.

It was Compton’s second consecutive victory in the World Cup series.

Marianne Vos (Rabobank) finished second on the Capannelle hippodrome, southeast of Rome, with Eva Lechner (Centro Sportivo Esercito) third.

Compton has an insurmountable lead in the World Cup with 350 points. Nikki Harris (Telenet-Fidea), who could manage only ninth place on Sunday, sits second overall with 249. Sanne Cant (Enertherm-BKCP), who finished fifth in Rome, sits third with 221.
