Jeremy Powers (Rapha-Focus) and Katerina Nash (Luna) prevailed in round two of the Cincy3 Cyclocross Festival on Saturday.
In the men’s race at Kings After Dark in the Cincinnati suburb of Mason, Danny Summerhill (K-Edge-Felt) led early, but he didn’t last more than a lap or two. Powers quickly lashed out from the chase group, bringing former teammate Zach MacDonald (KCCX) with him.
Powers and MacDonald traded barbs on the course as Summerhill faded. MacDonald seemed to float through the tight corners while Powers hammered the long golf-course flats. Eventually, Jamey Driscoll (Raleigh-Clement) broke the stranglehold of the chase to ride to a solid third place.
In the women’s race, Katie Compton (Trek Factory Racing) once again had drivetrain issues that sent her running for the pit; she would eventually drop out.
In the national champion’s absence Nash rode to the win with Rachel Lloyd and teammate Catharine Pendrel rounding out the podium.
The Toyota Cincy3 CX Festival continues Sunday with the first Pan American Continental Championships for women, junior men, and under-23 men, and a UCI C2 race for elite men.
