Lampre will start the Giro d’Italia with two former champions, Italians Gilberto Simoni and Damiano Cunego.

Simoni won the Giro in 2001 and 2003 while Cunego triumphed in 2004. Joining them will be sprinter Alessandro Petacchi, who has won 26 stages since the 2003 edition — though five victories were erased after he tested positive for the asthma medication salbuterol in 2007.

Also making the Giro squad is Danilo Hondo, who served a suspension after testing positive for carphedon in 2005.
