Geniez fined for Giro dust-up

Alexandre Geniez roughs up Hubert Dupont at the finish of the Giro's stage 3 after crashing with 15 kilometers to go.

Don't miss a moment from Paris-Roubaix and Unbound Gravel, to the Giro d’Italia, Tour de France, Vuelta a España, and everything in between when you join Outside+.

He crashed with 15km to go, thought his wrist was broken, and ended up losing 1:37 to the peloton — it’s understandable that Alexandre Geniez would be a bit crabby after the Giro d’Italia’s third stage. And at the finish, fellow Frenchman Hubert Dupont got the brunt of it. Whatever the disagreement was, FDJ’s Geniez was fined 200 Swiss Francs for roughing up Ag2r La Mondiale’s veteran rider.

The one bit of good news for Geniez is that his wrist isn’t broken. He will start stage 4 Tuesday, and having finished ninth overall in last year’s Giro, he may be one of France’s best hopes for a high overall placing. Another Frenchman, and one of Dupont’s teammates, Jean-Christophe Péraud, had to abandon the Giro Sunday after crashing and suffering head injuries.
