Dario Cioni and Thomas Lovkvist headline Team Sky’s Giro d’Italia squad, which also includes Michael Barry.
Both will be aiming for top-10 finishes in the overall GC, but Cioni admitted that given the mountainous final week, hanging around the top of the GC chart will be a challenge.
“I have been in the top five before (fourth in 2004), but that was on a course that suited me better,” Cioni said. “I will do the best I can. The final week is very difficult. I think it will be a Giro that is made for a rider who can stay consistent and avoid a bad day.”
Lovkvist brings solid experience to the team, with 19th in last year’s Tour de France and 25th in the Giro in 2009, including a day in the pink jersey.
Barry will be lining up for his 10th career grand-tour start while others, such as Peter Kennough and Russel Downing, will be starting their first.
