Ferrand-Prevot, Schurter take XC world titles
Ferrand-Prevot adds to road and cyclocross world titles with XC worlds victory, while Schurter nabs fourth career XC world championship win

France’s Pauline Ferrand-Prévot and Switzerland’s Nino Schurter rode to cross country world titles Saturday at the 2015 mountain bike world championships in Andorra.
Ferrand-Prévot’s gold-medal ride added another huge result to an already-impressive palmares: she is now the reigning world champion on the road, in cyclocross, and in cross country. Ferrand-Prévot, 23, took a convincing win after an hour and 52 minutes on course at the Vallnord ski resort, with Russia’s Irina Kalentyeva earning runner-up honors 58 seconds behind and Ukraine’s Yana Belomoina nabbing third, 1:36 back. Ferrand-Prévot will now turn her attention back to the road, with an attempted worlds road race defense just a few weeks away in Richmond, Virginia.
Having won world XC titles in 2009, 2012, and 2013, Schurter’s victory marks his fourth career cross country world championship win. The 29-year-old crossed the line 10 seconds ahead of Julien Absalon, denying the veteran Frenchman a sixth career XC worlds win. The Czech Republic’s Ondrej Cink was a distant third, 1:15 behind Schurter.
