ROUSSET, France (AFP) — John Degenkolb won for a second day in a row at the Tour Méditerranéen Friday, taking stage 2 in Rousset, France. Degenkolb (Giant-Shimano) topped Yannick Martinez (Europcar) in the 170-kilometer leg from Cadolive.
Armindo Fonseca (Bretange-Seche Environnement) was third.
“The stage tired many sprinters,” said Degenkolb. “For me, this is perfect to arrive at the finish line in these conditions.”
Degenkolb leads the overall after two stages.
The Tour Méditerranéen continues with two stages Saturday. The 63km third stage will be held in the morning, from Lambesc to Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. The 18km individual time trial comes in the afternoon. That fourth stage includes the ascent of Les Baux de Provence.
