MADRID (AFP) — Italy’s Gianluca Brambilla broke away to claim victory on the second day of the European cycling season in Mallorca ahead of Sky’s Michal Kwiatkowski and Zdenek Stybar, Brabilla’s Etixx – Quick-Step teammate, of the Czech Republic.
Brambilla made his move with just over 15 kilometers left in the 153km route to claim the Trofeo Pollenca-Andratx. “I am much stronger than in the past, more confident, and for 2016 I really want to take a victory, because I miss that special feeling,” he said.
The third in a series of four individual races in the Mallorca Challenge series takes the riders 143km from Soller to Deia on Saturday.
