Hannah Barnes (UnitedHealthcare) owns an 11-second lead at the Tour Femenino de San Luis after winning Monday’s stage 2.
The British rider also won Sunday’s opening stage.
Monday’s 74-kilometer stage ended in a bunch sprint, and Barnes’ teammates led her out before letting her go just a few hundred meters from the finish line.
“The sprint was a little chaotic but we got organized and the girls did a great job to keep me near the front,” Barnes said in a team release. “Alexis [Ryan] took it up with about 500 meters to go, with me on her wheel, and dropped me off perfectly with about 200 meters left ’till the line. I was able to take the win with yet another great team effort!”
Taking second was Paola Munoz (Clos Pirque Trek), while Arianna Fidanza (Estado De Mexico Faren) finished third. In the general classification, Barnes leads Elena Cecchini (Estado De Mexico Faren) by 11 seconds and Fidanza by 16 seconds.
The race resumes Tuesday with the 75km stage 3.
