LAS VEGAS, Nev. (VN) – Todd Wells is on the ground in Las Vegas, fresh off his seventh-place ride at cross-country worlds and credited his powerful Specialized squad for his best-ever worlds result.

Trying to get a leg up on the competition (and over obstacles) 35 cyclocross racers attended the FasCat Coaching-Jeremy Powers Cyclocross Camp August 12-14 in Boulder, Colorado.

Cannondale-Cyclocrossworld.com added strength to the team’s women’s side this week with the addition of U.S. masters national champion Nicole Duke. In her third season of elite cyclocross racing, Duke will focus on a return to Europe and a run at the world championships in Koksijde, Belgium.

Swiss national cyclocross champion Christian Heule will race for Cannondale-Cyclocrossworld.com in the upcoming season.

Bend, Oregon, may have lost the U.S. cyclocross national championships this year, but elite racing will return to central Oregon with the city hosts the final rounds of the U.S. Gran Prix of Cyclocross presented by Greenware.

Top American cyclocross racer Jeremy Powers is leaving his longtime post at Cyclocrossworld.com-Cannondale to race for Rapha-Focus in 2011.

BOULDER, Colo. (VN) — CrossVegas is set to open the international cyclocross season in 2011 and the Las Vegas event will be the launch pad for a new series of four night races. The fifth edition of the UCI C1 race will take place September 14 during the Interbike tradeshow.

The UCI on Sunday announced the international cyclocross race calendar for the 2011-12 season. Included on the schedule are 51 events in the United States, beginning with Nittany Lion Cross in Breinigsville, Pennsylvania, September 10 and culminating in the national championships in Madison, Wisconsin, January 6-8.

Ryan Trebon (Kona-FSA) has withdrawn his name from the U.S. elite men’s team for the cyclocross world championships. Trebon fell ill during a recent trip to California for training and informed USAC cyclocross program manager Marc Gullickson on Thursday that he would not join the team in St. Wendel, Germany, next week. Trebon’s absence means that just four Americans will line up for the elite men’s race January 30.

USA Cycling is set late Friday morning to announce the members of the 2011 cyclocross world championship team. Communications director Andrea Smith confirmed to VeloNews that the team should be named before 12:00 p.m. Mountain Time. Jeremy Powers (Cannondale-Cyclocrossworld.com) and Katie Compton (Planet Bike) are expected to lead the automatic selections, while a number of discretionary picks should build out the team’s roster, which may total as many as five riders in each category.

BRUSSELS, Belgium (VN) — The week between Christmas and New Year's is prime time for cyclocross in Belgium and the Netherlands, and in recent years the races have brought an influx of international competitors, including a large number of Americans and Canadians.

Just a week ahead of the Belgian championships, the evenly matched Nys and Albert stand alone as the favorites.
