Ryan Trebon (Kona-FSA) has withdrawn his name from the U.S. elite men’s team for the cyclocross world championships. Trebon fell ill during a recent trip to California for training and informed USAC cyclocross program manager Marc Gullickson on Thursday that he would not join the team in St. Wendel, Germany, next week. Trebon’s absence means that just four Americans will line up for the elite men’s race January 30.

USA Cycling is set late Friday morning to announce the members of the 2011 cyclocross world championship team. Communications director Andrea Smith confirmed to VeloNews that the team should be named before 12:00 p.m. Mountain Time. Jeremy Powers (Cannondale-Cyclocrossworld.com) and Katie Compton (Planet Bike) are expected to lead the automatic selections, while a number of discretionary picks should build out the team’s roster, which may total as many as five riders in each category.
