Joey Rosskopf (BMC Racing) won his second straight time trial title at the USA Cycling Pro Road Championships on Thursday in Knoxville, Tennessee.
The 28-year-old was strong throughout course, three laps of an 11.4-kilometer circuit totaling 34.2 kilometers. He set the fastest times at the early checkpoints and held on to finish with the day’s fastest mark of 39:46.
Sunweb’s Chad Haga finished second, 28 seconds down.
“I couldn’t have asked for better legs. It was pretty hard to match Chad Haga’s time on the first lap especially,” Rosskopf said. “I felt like I had the advantage to know the time checks, to base my own ride off of them. The only option to win is to go out and match the times and do better. If you fade, at least you tried. Luckily I felt good enough to do that.”
Brent Bookwalter gave BMC a third podium finisher, 34 seconds back.
Aevolo Cycling’s Gage Hecht delivered the fifth fastest time, two minutes down on Rosskopf, to finish as the day’s best-placed under-23 rider.
