Michael Matthews won the first Tour de France...

Matthews moves to Giant – Alpecin

After five years with Orica – BikeExchange, Australian Michael Matthews will ride for German team Giant – Alpecin in 2017.

After four years with his home country’s marquee team, Orica – BikeExchange, Australian Michael Matthews is taking his all-rounder talents to German team Giant – Alpecin for 2017.

Matthews, 25, has 25 pro wins so far in his career, including wins in all three grand tours — three at the Vuelta a España, two in the Giro d’Italia, and stage 10 in this year’s Tour de France. He also claimed three stage victories at Paris-Nice earlier in 2016. He also finished second in the 2015 world road race championships.

“I am very happy with my transfer to Team Giant – Alpecin,” said Matthews. “I have always admired the way the team approaches the sport as a team sport; the stronger and the better we can have the team as a collective operate and perform, the better the opportunities for success the leaders have for the finales of races.”
