The CX Zero Evo is basically its own sweet spot. It has all the aspirational brand cache of Colnago, hints of endurance geometry for long days in the saddle, but a build and design touches that are 100 percent race-worthy. And it does all of that at a price that had us doing double takes.

First off, this is a classics-proven bike, having taken riders of the former Europcar team across the cobbles of the north. It’s a racer-stiff frame with dramatically flattened and angled stays that noticeably soak up road chatter.

In terms of geometry, the Evo boasts the shortened top tube and taller head tube that are the price of entry for the endurance category. But it manages to incorporate them while maintaining an aggressive feel. While this bike can easily deliver on the all-day-comfort front, it wants to go hard and fast — and it has the looks to match.

The full Ultegra spec at this price also had our testers nodding in agreement. There are bikes that cost a full $1,000 more for the same build.

If you’re looking for a raceable endurance bike and don’t want disc brakes, it would be tough to do better for the price.
