Italian Francesco Reda handed eight-year ban for EPO
Francesco Reda, who finished second to Astana’s Vincenzo Nibali in the 2015 Italian national road race championships, has been banned for eight years due to a failed anti-doping test.
In July 2015, Italian authorities announced that Reda had tested positive for EPO at nationals. Italy’s anti-doping tribunal confirmed the result Friday with its decision to ban the 33-year-old for eight years. The Team Idea 2010 ASD rider was stripped of his podium result at national championships as well.
This is not Reda’s only doping offense. In fact, 2015 was his first season back in the peloton after serving a 14-month ban for refusing a doping control in 2013 while riding for Androni – Giocattoli. He was originally banned for two years, but his sentence was reduced after he cooperated with the Cycling Independent Reform Commission (CIRC).
