Preview: 2016 Giro d’Italia — Stage 8

Foligno to Arezzo

Saturday, May 14
169 kilometers

This is a tricky medium-mountain stage. The route runs along flat roads to the province of Arezzo, where a more undulating parcours begins. The riders will clear the Rassinata climb and take a first pass over the finish line then, after running through the center of Arezzo, they’ll climb the Alpe di Poti for the first time in Giro history. The gradients are not extreme, but the last six kilometers are on the famed sterrata, or strade bianche (white gravel roads), and will be decisive. The route then drops straight into the finish line in Arezzo.
