Ponte to Roccaraso
Thursday, May 12
After a nervous first few days, the GC riders will come to the fore on stage 6, which features three classified climbs and finishes on the 5,157-foot-high summit of the Aremogna. At only 9.25 kilometers and an average gradient of 4.4 percent, it doesn’t look challenging on paper. But a short descent about halfway up drops the average gradient. The reality is the riders will face some pitches well in excess of 10 percent, especially over the final two kilometers—which will feel all the more difficult after a week of flat stages and transfers.
