Small’s TT bike stolen at Giro Rosa, along with other Bigla bikes

Bigla team's Cervelo bikes stolen in Milan, while in transit during Giro Rosa, including Carmen Small's time trial bike.

The Bigla women’s team revealed Thursday, that some of its custom Cervelo bikes were stolen in Milano, while in transit during the Giro Rosa.

Both bikes were set to be used in Saturday’s penultimate time trial stage. One of the bikes stolen belonged to American time trial specialist, Carmen Small. “The team staff are very busy right now trying to adapt to the situation,” Small told VeloNews via email.

The theft, may not end up affecting Small, however. “We’re not sure that I was going to go full-out in the ITT tomorrow because we have a very clear goal here to try and win pink with Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio,” Small added. Moolman-Pasio currently sits only 16 seconds behind current maglia rosa-holder Megan Guarnier (Boels Dolmans).

The technical, 21km time trial course from Pisano to Nebbiuno will play a key factor in the race. “With it coming so late in the race too, it will be a big test to see how the favorites have recovered from the last few hard days,” Small said.

The stolen bikes were Cervelo P3 time trial bikes and the Cervelo S3 road bikes. The Cervelo P3 has a black paint job, while the S3 has the custom team paint job of blue and white. People with information about the theft can reach the team via email. The team is offering a 5,000 euro reward for information leading to the return of the bikes.

“We believe in [Moolman-Pasio] and the last stage is a mountaintop finish, and that will be crucial to the overall, so my job is to hang back and save my legs in the TT. That’s part of the job of being a team player,” Small said.
